Deciding For Jesus

A Decision to Make

Now you have read all about Jesus, we hope you have come to this page because you want to be reconciled to God – to be forgiven, and made whole again. What comes next? What must be done?

Some years ago in 1950 the evangelist Billy Graham had a radio show – it still runs today, called ‘The Hour of Decision’, all about making a decision for Christ, oddly, it only ever ran for 30 minutes, but the title – a critical time and a decision to be made. You can either be for Christ, or against Him, there is no grey area, no sitting on the fence.

Basically, you need to accept that you are in God’s eyes a sinner, that Jesus Christ has died for you, and trust Him for your deliverence. as your saviour and Lord. Some folks recommend what has come to be known as ‘the sinners prayer’, you can check out a version of it here http://www.gotquestions.org/sinners-prayer.html sinners prayer

A simpler and perhaps more direct prayer is that used by Billy Graham at his crusades,

Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.” – billy graham

Really what is required?

God already knows the thoughts of your mind and the feelings of your heart, you don’t need to be in a church to talk to Him, or to wait until Sunday, you don’t have to do this in public (though some people like to do so to make their witness ‘public’). There is no ritual that need be followed. God is always listening, just take some time, take a breath, think about what you are about to say, really mean it, and talk to Him. Here’s a verse from the last book of the Bible, Revelation,

Revelation 3:20 (Today’s New International Version)

20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with me.

Is that not a beautiful picture, God is waiting for you – always has been, just waiting for you to turn to Him and let Him in. Chat to Him now.

Afterwards?

Some people immediately feel something, they feel different, they feel in touch properly with God. Some do not, and this is OK, don’t worry if you don’t seem to feel any different, some people need to have it made a little more obvious to them. Jesus says you will receive the Holy Spirit – the 3rd person of the trinity, here in John 14:15

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15″If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

In other words, Jesus comes to live in You. Its really the beginning of the journey, your new life, new experiences on the way.

We will try to point you in some directions to go from here.
