The F2Y Project

Freely to You is essentially concerned with getting the Word of God to the needy, meaning the needy of God, which after all is everyone. We like the quote by D. T Niles;

“Christianity is one beggar telling another beggar where he found bread.”

We choose to offer the gospel through books, including of course copies of the Bible. Initially it was thought that we would only provide copies of the Bible, perhaps in two or three versions. But, many people find it a difficult book to read in isolation, or an intimidating book (largely because of mis-representation in our secular modern society). So we have added some additional ‘aid’ or ‘guide’ books to the library too.

Wait a Minute … you say

Why do you give these books for Free, in fact - why do you give them away at all? Can’t people go an buy one if they want one, can’t they get them from public libraries?

Well, not really. Many people not only don’t have the money to buy these books, but they wouldn’t want to risk their money buying something they were at best curious about. Its an additional dis-centive to have to buy the book. Few libraries in this increasingly secular society stock faith literature to a great degree, even the Gideon society bibles seem to be absent from hotel rooms everywhere.

But there is another stronger reason, it is our christian duty to do this, not the duty of the library or bookshop.

We take our cue on this matter from the following Bible quote:

10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely ye received, freely give.
Matthew 10:8 ASV

This is a marvellous command from Jesus to his disciples to go out alone for the first time to the lost sheep of Israel giving the good news. Now, we have received so much for free from God, lots and lots, we feel compelled to offer it all to others for free just as scripture, as Jesus himself says we should.

We think thats pretty compelling, don’t you?

Freely to You is a sort of passive evangelism, it provides valuable written evidence of the Gospel for free, the reader gets to keep the book if they like, a gift and a valuable one.

Aftercare

People need to know what to do next when they have finished a book, or what to do if they get stuck. We have a support website ( you are looking at it now), for cover, and a ministerial team of volunteers ready to answer questions posed by ‘clients’. They can follow up their experience, they can offer feedback or get advice on subsequent books.

How can I help?

We are so glad you asked.

The immediate need of the project is that you tell people about the bookcase, tell them they can get answers for free, that they can own the book, no charge. If someone reading a book seems to be struggling, help them. Please though, encourage them to make their own choice. Preferably they should always get a BIble at least.
